It’s not called noise it’s called texture.

Hi everyone,

I submitted more than thirty additional works to Alamy. I heard back that an image had failed their QC process because it had noise and was soft. I’m not it the least bit worried or offended about that as they are a photo agency and as such they assess things using their own criteria and I am not, nor do I desire to be an editorial photographer. What I am annoyed about is that if one or more images submitted do not pass their QC then all the submitted images fail.

I cannot find any way of identifying which image/s apart from the one that they mention that have/might fail QC and therefore just re-submit the other images in-bulk. What it looks like one has to do is re-upload and re-submit one by one or a few at a time at the best and keep on doing so until the submitted images have all passed QC. I have e-mailed them for clarification on this point and I am awaiting their reply. If this is the way that their system works then I shall request that they delete my account as the QC process takes on average 24 hours every time and thus it’ll take weeks if not months of trail and error to upload my work, something I have neither the time nor inclination to do.

Kind regards

People like trees.

Hi everyone, according to Flickr my most popular four works, all of them with trees in them.Β  No coincidence that they were all Explored on Flickr. Okay, I can take a hint and fortunately I live near plenty of trees!. πŸ™‚ . You’ll find all my Explored on Flickr works on this page.

Lens changer + reporter/backpack straps combo.

Hi everyone,

This works well, lens changer thingy plus my Op/Tech reporter/backpack straps attached to my Op/Tech camera strap and system connectors. They could be lengthened and adjusted as a matter of preference so that the camera is at the top and the lens is lower down if required as the system connectors fittings are interchangeable.

On further experimentation I have decided that, for me, it works better with the camera at the top, attached to the reporter straps and the lens changer below it attached to the camera strap but hey if I change my mind I can easily change them around. πŸ™‚

“A tad spooky”

Hi everyone,

A building and trees that I passed on my travels and, unless in the unlikely event that I’m lucky enough to visit icy wastes or a barren desert, then I see lots of tress and buildings on my travels πŸ™‚

Oh, by the way, I removed an eyesore danger of electrocution warning sign from this image so be careful if you go there! πŸ™‚

I joined Alamy Stock Photos and Images

Hi folks,

I joined Alamy Stock Photos and Images. I upload three images which have passed their quality control. I have a portfolio page there which is work in progress – https://www.alamy.com/portfolio/leighkempΒ .There’s not much to see at the moment as I can’t figure out how to get my uploads to appear on the portfolio page πŸ™‚ .

I’m not publicising it widely as I’m going to leave it at just the three shots for time being until I get a feel for the site and whether it looks like it’ll be worth it. My gut feeling is that it’ll be another of those sites where one’s work disappears like a drop in the ocean but one’s got to try new things.

Brussels – the unpublished works

Hi everyone,

I often take shots that I never do anything with of things that catch my eye and/or appeal to my sense of humour when I’m walking around on my travels. I thought I’d share with you some such shots of Brussels that have previously never seen the light of day, until now that is. πŸ™‚

Why do I enjoy processing so much?

Hi everyone,

I spend a lot of time working on my images. Not only do I find it both therapeutic and stimulating which is, I guess,Β  another way of saying that I enjoy it, but I also find it fascinating what the software is capable of doing. Here’s a fairly dull shot of the river, one frame from an HDR, unprocessed except for basic lens corrections.

WIP BEFORE.jpg

Here’s the same scene after I’ve done some quick processing, a bit more atmospheric and appealing I hope. I wouldn’t regard this a finished work as I’d work on it a bit more before I’d be totally happy with it.
