Real people

Hi everyone,

Sometimes one can work on an image for a long time before it gets to the stage where one is happy with it. Sometimes one works on an image for a long time and then discards it and occasionally, as was the case with this one, one starts work and it comes together very quickly and one gets a real buzz of excitement

It’s doing pretty well in the current Olympus gallery most popular listing at no.2 in the UK users listing and no. 4 in the European users listing. I don’t and never have given a stuff about competition but it’s always gratifying and confidence-boosting to see one’s work featured.

Nice thing about trees is they’re easy to spot and generally-speaking they stand pretty still πŸ™‚

As is the case with Flickr and my Blog I like these sites as they’re frequented by “real” people and not self-proclaimed photographic/art experts!Β Β When they like an image it’s based on face value and not some artistic snobbery and technical nonsense about what camera or lens was used etc..

Kind regards

Leigh

Update 25/4/2018, This work has made it to the UK and the European No.1 spot in the Olympus users Gallery today. This is just the sort of publicity that I sorely need.

Back from the black

Hi everyone,

I’m back from the black, I’ve had a period of several months where I came as close as I ever want to be to packing in my artwork. I joined an organisation, no names, but I felt very out of place there, they don’t seem to cater for, support or encourage my “style” of work. I found the whole experience very dismaying and extremely depressing. My fault entirely as I should have known that my work doesn’t fit in anywhere! :).

So I’ve requested that my membership be cancelled, as Groucho Marx saidΒ “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.” and that’s how I found the experience. I’m not one for glossy periodicals with content that I found staid, boring and of little to no interest to me, meetings, competitions, exhibitions or other events. l’ll continue to plough my own, sometimes lonely artistic farrow πŸ™‚

Kind regards

King Canute Mentality

Hi everyone,

Lately I’ve been frequently coming across individuals with what I call a King Canute mentality. One of my interest for more than thirty years has been in Amateur Radio. In recent times there’s been some very exciting and interesting developments in the field of digital communications. I’ve come across the argument “Yes but it’s not Amateur Radio” and frequently the same with photography “yes but it’s not photography” (whatever that is supposed to mean),Β  I can only assume they’re referring to Fox Talbot?!.Β  I’m getting pretty tired of these outdated and outmoded views.

As I move in to my 60th year I’m delighted to embrace and investigate new and exciting technologies, to “boldly go where not that many others have gone before” :).Β  I didn’t take my Amateur Radio License because I was in love with owning the equipment I took it because I enjoy interesting enjoyable and educational conversation with others around the world. Likewise I didn’t become interested in photography because IΒ  sort after owning a camera.

Both my “radio” and photographic equipment are, and always have been, purely tools, nothing more, nothing less. I don’t care if the person that I’m speaking to is on a mobile phone connected by WIFI, a tin can and a bit of string or a traditional “radio” or that a photograph was taken on a mobile phone, a Box Brownie, a compact camera or a Β£2000+ DSLR, it’s the spirit of the thing that’s important.

They’ll always be those who try and turn back the tide and hold out there “their way is the only right way” but in the long term they’ll be swept away by the irreversible tide of change. I for one won’t be sorry to see their passing.

Kind regards

Leigh
