“I love it when a plan comes together”

Hi,

I thought I’d write a few words about my photographic trip out yesterday morning. I wasn’t feeling very inspired yesterday as I’ve visited the town so many times that I thought I’d been there, done that and got the T.shirt so as to speak. I decided that I’d have a coffee and see if I could come up with some ideas. The coffee was good but I left the cafe still without any real ideas so thought I’d do what I usually do and walk around in search of inspiration.

I stumbled upon this great wall mosaic with various animals and the idea started to take shape in my head that the birds would look good in a photo-blend so I photographed them and then the sky. Give me an hour and a camera and I’ve usually found something that I want to photograph,.I should have realised by now that it only takes a second for an idea to form in one’s head.

By the time I’d returned home I’d thought about how the work might look and thought about possible titles which sometimes have a direct bearing on the finished work. First of all I worked on the sky, I wanted to turn a rather ordinary-looking sky into something more dramatic and colourful and once I had got this I worked on adding the birds, put it all together and added the finishing touches and voila “Follow the sun” was born. As Hannibal used to say in the A-Team, “I love it when a plan comes together” :).

It all started with a cover disk on a computer mag.!

It all started with a cover disk on a computer mag., my love of graphic design that is. I remember buying this computer magazine back in the eighties and included with it was a CD (or maybe even a floppy disk). I can’t remember, containing a free early version of PaintShop Pro. That event changed my life, from that day on I was completely hooked on computer graphics. Of course this was more than twenty-five years ago now and things were not as anywhere as sophisticated as they are today but I absolutely loved that software (and still do) and spent hours a day experimenting with it learning how to do things and the time just sped by without thinking, hours seemed to turn in to minutes.

The other life changer was the introduction of digital photography and it took me a while to “marry” my love of photography with my love of graphic design after making the transition from film to digital. For once I could load my photographs straight on to my computer and do whatever I liked with them, experiment in ways that were previously impossible. It’s hard to put it into words but for me it’s a kind of magical feeling, experimenting with new ideas and learning all the time, it gives me the same “buzz” today as discovering that software all those years ago did.

I guess the third major event was the introduction of the internet, now, not only could I take photographs in the morning, I could work with them on my computer and then upload them via the internet and by bed time I could share them all around the world and I still find this technology absolutely amazing!.

Thanks for your support

Hi everyone,

A non art-related post today to say thanks to all who have followed my blogs, sent me tweets and followed me on Twitter, Facebook, About.Me, Flickr,Β Tumblr and Google+ and supported and encouraged me in my work. I have been working very hard lately to try to develop my various pages and my new website and create a theme and style across all my accounts.

I started out just over two years ago posting my work on Flickr and have made many friends amongst this highly creative and supportive community and reached an astonishing half a million photo views earlier this year. I’ve just celebrated my first year of blogging and have much enjoyed making new friends and followers in the blogging community.

Thanks again and have a great day
