The way the camera sees things and the way I see it.

Hi everyone,

This is how I see things. For me there are only a few things that are of prime importance in a camera and lenses. They have to be small, light, well built, reliable and take well exposed and sharp images which is why my current choice is the Olympus OM-D system.Β Β The thing that I most enjoy about photography is finding subjects/locations and imagining how they might look when I’ve had a chance to work with my images.Β  So there’s a sort of feedback loop already going on in my head when I’m looking around and takingΒ  pictures.

What the camera sees is one thing what my mind’s eye sees is another thing entirely. What I’m always searching for in a scene are aspects such as perspective, textures, compositional elements and lighting etc. and well beyond that how I can work with these when I’ve downloaded my images which brings me on to processing (hate the term), for me, by far the most important and exciting part.

A while back I stumbled across the perfect description for my type of work “Paintography” some years after I stumbled into it completely unaware that there was such a thing. I guess this is where the photographer in me stops and my artistic side takes full-rein if indeed one can separate one from the other. Put simply, this is the point where I have complete artistic freedom to explore and mix different techniques and open the lid on a Pandora’s box of artistic possibilities, such a large box that even after some years I’m very muchΒ  still discovering and experimenting with new things.

Best wishes

New work: “A cup of coffee and a good pipe”

Hi everyone,

I don’t very often do people shots but I spotted this gentleman enjoying a cup of coffee and smoking his pipe outside a cafe in Prague and thought it might make for a nice painterly work.

New work: “Picturesque” – Prague

Hi everyone,

A shot taken from the beautiful Charles Bridge looking back toward St.Nicholas Church and Prague Castle. I manged to dodge and loose most of the crocodiles of hundreds of tourists and tour group leaders waving their umbrellas adorned with fluffy gonks to get this shot. One thing I learned a long time ago is to always remember to look up as Prague is one of those cities, like Rome, where the facades and tops of building are adorned with beautiful interesting features.

Hi everyone,

A bit of an autobiographical work this one :). I think that I’ve turned in to a bit of a tram spotter in my old age πŸ™‚

New work – “Prague”

Hi everyone,

A street shotΒ  of Prague, simply named Prague as, for me, it seems to capture the spirit of the city, oh and it’s got some more trams in it!. πŸ™‚

New work – “A rainy day in Prague”

Hi everyone,

Prague street scene near the old town square. The rain didn’t dampen my spirits, it dampened everything else though πŸ™‚ . Suffice as to say that they weren’t selling much ice cream at the cafe πŸ™‚ .As far as my work goes it doesn’t get much more “painterly” than this one, dripping with atmosphere or maybe that should read “pouring” πŸ™‚
