DXO NIK Collection 9

Hi everyone,

I’ve splashed out and upgraded to the latest iteration of one of my all-time favourite programs, the NIK Collection, a constant companion of many years. I’ve temporarily shelved my plans to upgrade my copy of DXO Filmpack from my current version 5 to the latest version 8 which I’ve much enjoyed trialling but it’s something that I definitely want to do when funds permit. The new version of the NIK collection has some very exciting new additions, as always, it’s an incredibly powerful suite of editing tools. There’s plenty of reviews online but it does add some nice features like colour grading, blending modes, depth masking, AI masking, halation, chromatic shift and glass effects and others. I’ve always really liked it’s selective adjustments and used them a lot over the years. If there’s one piece of software that I wouldn’t like to be without it’s this one.

Kind regards

Leigh

  1. I am planning an update in the near future of NIK. Silver Efex is my go to for monochrome. I must warn you, going to the new Filmpack be prepared for the new Timeline that seems to take over the interface. Once you realize selecting it select it for old films is the problem you will see a semi familiar interface and better tools.

    • Hi Ted, thanks for the heads-up, I think the Time Machine/Time Warp thing is a bit of a gimmick. Silver Effex is the best Black and White conversion tool out there, I also use it quite a bit. All-in-all I think that the new NIK version is worth the upgraade. Some years back I installed Infinity Photo and I’ve not really done much with it but thought I’d dig it out and it makes a great plugin launcher. It works with all my DXO, Topaz and Luminar software and few others. It has some nice features and was free which is always good. πŸ™‚

      • I like DxO products, except Photolab which has issues and really doesn’t fit my work flow anyway. Lightroom is still the best, but can get so cranky and slow I need to know another editor. Tried most of them and ON1 is my backup plan. Not Lightroom good, but sooner or later I’ll still leave LR.

      • Hi, I did have a very old version of Lightroom. I don’t use cataloguing so, with the exception of Luminar NEO where I don’t have a choice I like editors without this feature as I do one off edits. and that’s why Affinity is useful for me as it support Photoshop/Lightroom plugins and I can import export between the program and Affinity to my heart’s content. πŸ™‚ I have PhotoLab5 but don’t use it as much as I used to., DXO stuff is stable and reliable and it’s always been a favourite of mine.
