Yet another river work :)

Hi everyone,

Regulars to my blog will know how much I love the River Thames as I grew up very near by to it so it’ll come as absolutely no surprise that here’s yet another river work of the River at Richmond upon Thames πŸ™‚

My processing non-workflow : )

Hi everyone,

I thought I’d do a list of my favourite and most used photo software in no particular order.

  1. DXO Optics Pro 11 Elite
  2. DXO Viewpoint 3
  3. Corel Paintshop Pro 2018.
  4. Various NIK Collection plugins like Viveza, Colour FX, Analogue FX etc. (FREE)
  5. Various Topaz plugins eg. Detail, Adjust, Restyle and Clarity etc.
  6. Topaz Studio (FREE)
  7. Dynamic Auto Painter
  8. Adobe Lightroom
  9. Landscape Pro Studio
  10. ON1 Effects 10 (FREE)
  11. Photomatrix Pro

I always work on my RAW files using DXO Optics Pro as my RAW importer of choice as it has great lens correction profiles as well as a host of good features such as Clearview, Prime noise reduction and great auto and manual perspective correction and more. For more intensive control over perspective correction I like DXO Viewport.

I tend to use Lightroom primarily as a host for exporting and importing between software programs and applying plugins such as Topaz and NIK etc. and I keep the image as a 16 Bit TIF file throughout.

DAP is a really nice program for painting and textures. Landscape Pro is really very useful for working with landscape works and very intelligent in what it sets out to do. I like ON1 as it’s free πŸ™‚ and has a large number of extra presets and filters including some nice film and movie type effects.

Lastly I use Photomatrix for most of my HDR processing and Paintshop Pro, which I know like the back of my hand, as I’ve been using it in all its forms for so many years as an all-round image editor.

So when I’m asked about my workflow it’s pretty impossible to answer as, with the exception of starting with DXO Optics pro and ending up with a final image, I can use any or maybe even all of these programs along the way. πŸ™‚

I was asked exactly this question a while back as if one could dial it in using one piece of software and the answer is that every work is different in one way or another and thus there is no set path from RAW image to end result. If there was I’d be very bored very quickly and every work would come out looking pretty much the same, no fun or challenge in that! :).

New work: “Surrey Surreal”

Hi everyone,

I thought I’d change tack today and do a colourful surreal landscape work for a change. You never know exactly what you’ll get from me in one of my posts do you? :). The day before yesterday I was in a very β€œpainterly” mood, yesterday I enjoyed going back to monochrome and today I’m off in the opposite direction. Still it helps to keeps things fresh and experimental. Don’t ask what I’ll be making tomorrow because I haven’t a clue yet :).
