Once it’s in your blood

Hi everyone,

Earlier today I was invited to join a discussion on Facebook with artists around the world and it was a very enjoyable experience chatting with and viewing their work. Made some new talented artist friends and exchanged some really interesting and inspirational ideas.

When I was chatting it made me stop and think about my work and I typed this comment which I’m reprinting here “I think the thing that I’ve learned the most is that my work doesn’t really fit easily in any ready made pigeon holes. If I describe myself as an artist then a lot of people’s expectations are that I carry brushes and an easel around with me on my travels. If I describe my work as Fine Art Photography then people expect pure unadulterated photography. I guess I like to blur these preconceived lines and do whatever takes my fancy in whatever style that I wish. Maybe that’s the root cause of why it doesn’t sell, maybe it falls between two stools so as to speak but it’s what drives me on.”

There have been and I’m sure that there will be more times when I think to myself maybe it’s time to quit but I know in my heart of hearts that I can’t it’s a drug that once in your bloodstream it never leaves, the craving is so very strong. Every time I start work on Β and experiment with new ideas in a new work the “rush” of excitement is simply so enjoyable and vital.

Kind regards

“Once upon a time in a dream”

Hi,

Continuing my floral theme. There’s a lot going on in this one. I wanted subdued, hopefully delicate colours whilst keeping a few bright coloured leaves.

New Work : “Paper Rose”

Hi folks,

The title says it all :). It started life as a test shot for my new EM-1 camera and “grew” from there. πŸ™‚ Beautiful turquoise (my favourite colour) fluted vase, fell in love with it in a charity shop window and bought for Β£5.00. πŸ™‚

London Pride has been handed down to us.
London Pride is a flower that’s free.
London Pride means our own dear town to us,
And our pride it for ever will be.

Hi everyone,

I don’t do it very often but sometimes I’m not 100% happy with a work so I’ll re-work it. πŸ™‚

Best wishes,

Inspired by one of my favourite songs of the same name

“Oh Mummy, Daddy, will you sit a while with me
Oh Mummy, Daddy, will you jog my memory
Tell me tall tales of Montego Bay
Table mountain, flying fish, banana spiders, pots of paint
And the sun on the equator
Setting like an ember thrown to deep water
From crimson to black
But coming back
Tomorrow
On the horizon”

Best wishes

Come in no. 49, your time’s up!

Bottles on a seafront stall in Eastbourne. The title will probably be totally meaningless to anyone who never went on a boating lake as a kid πŸ™‚

Rationalising my social media pages

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking of doing this for some time. There are only three sites which I enjoy posting to and interacting on, my blog here and my pages on Flickr and NiumeΒ so I have decided to only post to these sites and no longer post to my Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts. I shall leave these pages as they are as I’ve invested some effort in setting them up and maintaining them but I shall not be updating them. I also intend not to renew my annual website and Pixels account subscriptions when they expire.

Hope everyone is keeping happy and well,

Best wishes
