“Downtown” – Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 + CPL Filter Test.

Hi everyone,

A photo walk on a cold but very sunny morning in Bognor to try out my new Tiffen “FusionPOL” Black Pro Mist 1/4 + CPL filter which finally arrived yesterday. Olympus PEN-F camera and M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 lens. Let it not be said that I’m not doing my small bit to bolster the U.S economy. πŸ™‚

A small point maybe but I tested before I went out with my computer monitors and again in the field and I like that Tiffen have put the “Tiffen” lettering at the point where one gets no polarising effect so one can easily see it and align it unlike some CPL filters where they either don’t have any marking or a very small mark that’s often hard to see. Assuming that one is at right-angles to the light source rotating the filter 90 degrees either way from a position where the lettering is at the top (or at the bottom) gives the maximum polarising effect and one can easily see it by the relative positioning of the “Tiffen” lettering. I thought I’d do a couple of full-on contre-jour shots to see how well the mist effect performed.

Overall I’m quite pleased with the filter, I’ll leave it on for while to test it out more. I’ve always been a firm believer in lens hoods and a screw-in hood does make rotation of a CPL filter a lot quicker and less fiddly especially with gloves on apart from protecting a not inexpensive lens and filter from knocks and finger marks. Just try and remember to rotate it anti-clockwise so as not to risk gradually unscrewing it. πŸ™‚

Whilst I’m waiting

Hi everyone,

Whilst I’m waiting for a Tiffen fusionPOL combined 1/4 black pro mist and CPL filter to arrive which seems to be stuck on a very slow moving boat from the U.S.A, so slow it would appear that it’s being propelled by oars, I decided to pop my Kenko 0.5 black mist diffusion filter onto my Marumi Super DHG CPL filter and headed off for the nearest foliage that I could. Unlike the weather of late it was a pretty cold but bright sunny morning with only a few whispy clouds in an otherwise clear blue sky. Dressed like a cross between Nanook Of The North and the Michelin Man I set forth for the local park. In the sunshine I was overdressed, out of it I most certainly wasn’t. Even though I own quite a few I’m not an habitual user of filters but thought I’d try out this combination. My camera choice of the day my Olympus PEN-F and TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 lens. On my way home I spotted this great eccentric car. πŸ™‚ . The park also has the highest concentration of crows that I’ve ever seen, in places it looks like a scene from Hitchcock’s The Birds. πŸ™‚

Another canal shot

Hi everyone,

Another of my works of Chichester Canal.

Kind Regards,

Lest we forget.

Hi everyone,

Like so many families, my family fought in and lost members in both World Wars fighting for the freedoms that many have learned to take for granted. Especially now, faced with all the modern-day threats to these freedoms, I believe that, perhaps more than ever, it’s especially important to remember them and the values that they gave their lives to defend.

Kind regards

Leigh

“Back to the garden”

Hi everyone,

Another of my shots from yesterday, one of my favourite local locations, Bishop’s Gardens, Chichester behind the Cathedral.

Kind regards to all,

“Down by the canal” Chichester Landscape

Hi everyone,

Dodged the rain showers down by the canal in Chichester this morning. Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-50mm lens. I took my modified rain cover and left it fitted as it was one of those days when there were intermittent showers. Another shot taken with a much maligned “kit” lens. πŸ™‚

Best wishes,

Leigh
