I solved my NIK 9 issue.

Hi everyone,

With no meaningful assistance from DxO I solved my NIK 9 problem. Thanks to Sherry for the tip on On1 which looks very good I decided to download a trial version. Just like NIK 9 it would install and then not run. Unlike NIK 9 it was kind enough to give me an error in Windows Application Event Log which pointed to a faulting DLL file. I realised that this was related to Microsoft Visual C++ so I installed the latest version of their Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable. This solved both problems, NIK Collection 9 and ON1 run both as standalone and as plugins. πŸ™‚

I’m not in a hurry to let them know however, I will of course do so in the vague hope that someone there has the sense to add it to their diagnostic advice and help others with the same problem but, based on my experiences, I kind of doubt it. DxO support minus one, me one! πŸ™‚

Thanks to everyone that has tried to help me on this, much appreciated. If I hadn’t installed ON1 I wouldn’t have spotted this, thanks Sherry.

Kind regards

Leigh

  1. Yeah! I hate when things don’t work. I am so glad you got it solved. Good sleuthing. I’ve had run-ins with C++ files before. I used to beta test Windows versions.

Hope you have time to look at on1. It is a heavy-duty app. I use some of their presets and denoise.

    • Hi Sherry, thanks, I think that C++ got corrupted between my original install of Nik9 and subuseqent attempt to re-install and run it. If it wasn’t for ON1 showing an error in Event Viewer I’d be none the wiser. On1 is very good, I’ve purchased it πŸ™‚ All the best, Leigh

      • On1 is like Lightroom and Photoshop combined. They have excellent tutorials. Since I use Adobe stuff I use On1 as a plugin. You can use it as a catalogue for any folders that you want to add. Their tech support is decent. I’ve used the app for many years.
